Disconnectors
A disconnector (also known as disconnect switch or isolator) is a switch used to manually cutoff a circuit from power source for purpose of maintenance.
In HV substations when a specific circuit needs to opened for routine maintenance or troubleshooting, the respective disconnector is opened. Disconnectors must not be confused with circuit breakers which are more complex in both construction and application. Circuit breakers work on-load but a disconnector must not be operated when the circuit is powered.
